Tube journey planner (London Underground)The London Underground, or tube as it is affectionately called (or sometimes not depending on how good the service is that day!) was the first underground metro system of its kind in the world. The iconic tube map is an award-winning design classic, simplifying journey planning by using only horizontal, vertical and 45° lines (so not-to-scale) and of course the memorable colours of the various tube services. To plan your route via tube, you need nothing more than this map. Services are regular and mostly un-scheduled, so no timetable is required (mostly you only need allow up to 5 minutes wait between trains). Some tube stations double up as mainland rail stations connecting you with the overland rail network, which is useful even within central London, as not all areas are catered for by the tube. There is a map available from TFL (Transport for London) which shows both underground and overground train services in the Greater London area as well as Trams. This map is usually referred to as London Connections. Transport for London also supply simple Tube Maps. Both can be downloaded from their website. For an online London Journey Planner we recommend you use the tfl journey planner.
