Road journey planners and route planners

To find the best route by car from A to B, there are 2 goof journey planners available on the web: the RAC route planner and the AA Journey Planner

When you're lost in London

If you find yourself lost on the London roads (which you invariably will, even with the help of a map!) there is a fantastic service run by London taxi drivers called theknowledge.com who will give you directions over the phone from wherever you are. "The knowledge" is what a taxi driver must have to qualify to drive a black cab ("Hackney Carriage") - the ability to drive someone to any street in London purely from memory! They really are human A-Zs!

The AA Journey Planner/Route planner

The AA's route planner gives detailed road directions including details of traffic 'blackspots' and optionally a map of your route.

The RAC ROUTE PLANNER/RAC JOURNEY PLANNER

The RAC journey planner gives more concise directions than the AA's route planner, which can sometimes be a bonus and sometimes seem a deficiency. The AA tends to give too much information, which can at times lead to confusion, whilst the RAC route planner can give too little information at times to the point of making the directions a bit vague.
